Importance of wellbeing

Wellbeing is a contended state of living a happy, healthy & prosperous life. It refers to the positive & sustainable habits which enable us to grow & flourish happily.

Wellbeing is not about living "The good life"; but it is about having meaning in life, about fulfilling our potential and feeling that our life is worthwhile. Well-being is something that we all desire but most of us believe that outside forces command our wellbeing.

Good health
It is a state of our complete physical, mental and social wellbeing, and not merely the absence of disease or illness. It not only includes being strong and feeling well, but also includes freedom from avoidable diseases; living in a healthy environment having the ability to keep fit, with minimum health related stresses, and ensured access to medical care.

Material needs
It is the access to goods-and-services that is having enough income and assets, enough food and clean water, shelter, clothing, at all times.

Security
It is the personal and environmental security that is the freedom from violence, crime and wars, as well as security from natural and human-caused disasters.

Social relations
It relates to our positive attitude, healthy social interactions, mutual respect, good family relations, and the ability to help others.
In the fast-paced modern life of the contemporary world where everyone is trying to meet their deadlines and work in a jam-packed schedule, wellbeing is often ignored. It is only when, we suffer from a sudden difficult situation that we realize the importance of our well-being.

Preventive measures
Good health is important for your comfortable living. Inappropriate health makes you vulnerable to invasion by dangerous diseases which results in shortened life span. Good health is easily achievable but all it requires is determination, drive and willingness to make small changes in your life style.

There are 5 main components of good health.

Nutrition
Eat balanced diet & replace all of your junk foods with healthy nutritious foods.
You should not try to completely & drastically change what you eat in order to improve your poor eating habit.
Consult your dietician to know your daily nutritional recommendations.

Exercise
Find exercises that you enjoy doing like trekking, hiking, jogging, running, brisk walking, swimming & yoga.
It is important to remember that you need to undertake some kind of mild to moderate physical activity each and every day to stay healthy and happy. This will help you to strengthen your body, help you to lose weight, and reduce your stress.

Rest and Relaxation
7-8 hours of regular sound healthy sleep will allow your body to rejuvenate and restore itself.
Sleep deprivation is one of the biggest causes of premature aging, tiredness & irritations & chronic tiredness can increase your risk of depression and anxiety.
Spend time in relaxing every day, even if it's just half an hour to read your favorite book or partake in a hobby, as it will increase your overall effectiveness, performance & reduce your stress.

Smoking & Drinking
Smoking or excessive drinking is a threat to your good health.
Occasional drinking such as small amounts of red wine is good for your health but Smoking endangers your health and the health of those around you.
The sooner you quit smoking, the faster your body can begin to repair the years of his damage.

Spiritual Practice
Daily you should do some kind of spiritual practice in order to pull away your mind from the petty irritations and distractions of life and to open your mind and spirit to see the bigger picture.
